Default Car tries to start but wont turn over was told it looks electrical

The other day i ran out of gas simply because I just didn't have the money, on my way to get gas my van ran out of gas 20 feet from the gas station and since the van was running when it ran out of gas, I coasted to the gas station. But after partially filled the tank it wouldn't start, it would try but no matter how much I would try to accelerate the van would not start it seemed as if the gas was not getting to the motor it would try to start but you could not hear any aceleration when I stepped on the pedal. So I called AAA roadside service and they came and towed my home after he tried to help me start it. And suggested that it seemed to be something electrical. I cannot afford to take it to a mechanic right now. Can someone suggest what it might be. My dad knows alittle about cars but he can't seem to find the answer. He checked the gas pump but its working its seems as the gas is not getting in. We checked all the fuses but they seem fine. My van is a mercury villager 1994. Suggestions please.....

It sounds like it’s flooded, take out the fuel pump relay crank it over with it out, to clear the excess fuel. Them put it back in and try again without pumping the accelerator.

I think you really need to get it checked for fault codes (and live data if possible). You may find that auto accessory shops will carry out a basic scan (that may be all you need) very cheaply or even for free and you can then ether post any codes here or Google them to find out what they mean.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on
